Woman loses nearly $3K in scam, and more

The following items were taken from Hinsdale police reports.

Fraud

A woman from the 300 block of West 59th Street was the victim of a scam on Jan. 15 in which she was sent a $2,969 check and then wired the same amount to an unknown suspect via Western Union. The check that was sent to her turned out to be fraudulent. The scam was reported Feb. 16.

Leaving the scene of accident

A 21-year-old Westmont man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, not having a valid driver’s license, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident Feb. 19 after he struck a concrete bridge support at Highway 83 and Ogden Avenue. The man from the 3000 block of north Adams St. fled the accident scene, but later turned himself in to police.

Possession of cannabis

A 16-year-old boy from Burr Ridge was charged with possession of cannabis after he was found in possession of a substance that tested positive for the drug while at Hinsdale Central High School at 11:41 am. Feb. 17. He was released to a parent.

Deceptive practice

A bad check in the amount of $75 was used to pay for having an item repaired at a jeweler in the 100 block of Grant Square Feb. 14.
