Nearly 13,000 DuPage County taxpayers have appealed the assessed valuation of their property, Craig Doval, supervisor of assessments said Thursday.
The number is about 3.8 percent of the total number of properties in the county, which Doval said is 334,792.
Doval said hearings on the appeals are on-going. He said the results of the appeals, such as how many were successful and what the average revision was, will not be known until March or April.
He said there has been an upward tick in the number of property owners appealing the land valuations that are used to calculate property taxes.
“It’s higher than it’s been in the past,” he said. “I attribute it to declining property values and a sensitivity to taxes.”
