All nine Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills School District 181 principals lined up in front of the school board to help Janet Stutz, assistant superintendent for instruction, deliver the district’s annual report Monday night.
The school improvement plan took the four board goals adopted in November and presented concrete ways in which they could be achieved.
The goals, which focus on student achievement, long-term planning, community engagement and supporting leadership, were all taken apart and discussed by the different principals. Each took a turn presenting the information to the board.
For goal one, the principals want all students to meet or exceed state testing standards in reading and math within the next three years.
Technology is a big part of the second goal, which focuses on providing all students with challenging instruction. This includes technology infusion such as utilizing the district’s Smart Boards, working with iPod Touches and completing more computer-based projects.
For goal three, the principals honed in on fostering positive relationships by beefing up the district’s service learning extracurriculars, social work groups and safety programs such as D.A.R.E. and cyber bullying awareness week.
The wrap-up with goal four included initiating assessments of the school climate across the district by possibly creating a committee and sending out a survey.
The goals were adopted in November following an October community engagement session hosted by superintendent Renee Schuster.
“It’s wonderful to see you all working here together tonight,” said board president Linda Rio Reichmann.
Stutz said the school improvement plan would be posted on the district’s Web site sometime this week. Check back to Triblocal.com for more information.
