Oasis Summer Day Camp today announced it is expanding to a Highland Park location next summer. Oasis will be offering sessions in Highland Park, at Immaculate Conception School, 770 Deerfield Road, beginning in June 2012.

Elementary school teacher, James Schamber said, “We’re adding a second location to meet the demand of parents in the North Shore areas of Highland Park, Glencoe, Deerfield, and Northbrook, who are interested in sending their kids to Oasis Camp. We’re looking forward to expanding our innovative approach to summer camp to the Highland Park location, in June 2012.”

Oasis Camp, the North Shore’s premier summer camp for children ages 5 to 12, offers weekly schedules to satisfy creative, active, and adventurous campers — boys and girls alike. Located in Winnetka, at 180 Ridge Avenue, camp sessions run through August 12.

Camp founders, Brooke and James Schamber, who are both trained professionals in education and child and family services, have succeeded in creating the ideal summer camp experience offering an exciting mix of field trips, sports, and creative learning.

James, an experienced teacher and athletic coach, holds a graduate degree in curriculum and instruction. A second grade teacher at Orrington Elementary School in Evanston, he also taught classes at the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University.

Brooke, a school psychologist at Waukegan High School, has extensive experience in child and adolescent development, education, and family models. The husband-wife team, who live in Evanston, worked with summer camps in the North Shore area for many years.

"Oasis Camp has revolutionized our children’s attitude toward summer camp. Whereas previous camps have mainly been a subject of complaint, the boys are excited every day to be going to this camp. The activities are various, imaginatively chosen and well organized. Founders Brooke, James and their co-counselors are both fun and caring. We have complete confidence putting our kids in their hands," says Evanston’s Jeremy Pardoe.

This summer, Oasis campers have enjoyed field trips to a Cubs game, Glencoe Beach, Brookfield Zoo, Green Meadows Farm, Action Territory, Wild West Town, a Harry Potter movie, Lake County Fair, and the Museum of Science and Industry. Recent activities have included science, dance, and cooking classes, pet ownership instruction, and magic, dance, and juggling performances.

Oasis employs counselors, who are professionals in education and recreation fields, as well as qualified college students, to promote a camp atmosphere of fun, adventure, sportsmanship, and creativity.

Child safety is a number one priority for Oasis Camp. With an impressive, low staff-to-camper ratio of 1 to 7, all staff is CPR certified. Professional bus companies with licensed drivers are employed to transport children during field trips. In addition, buses are air-conditioned and have seat belts.

As an added convenience, campers also receive a balanced, healthy lunch once a week, delivered by Gourmet Gorrilla, a kids’ lunch service. Parents can also choose this lunch option 5-days-a-week.

Oasis Summer Day Camp offers a variety of field trips, including visits to museums, zoos, water parks, pools, beaches, movies, county fairs, roller skating parks, baseball games, farms, arcades, and sports parks. Fun-filled activities include cooking and sailing lessons, sports tournaments, group folly performances, science instruction, dunk-tank, watermelon-spitting and costume competitions, and water wars. The camp also promotes literacy year-round with an incentive-based reading program.
