RTA Board Approves Funds for Local Transit Project

The Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee /LCCTSC is delighted to report that the RTA Board approved continued federal funding support for two more years for the “Lake County Northwest Demonstration Project” Dial-a-Ride service. The project, initiated by LCCTSC in 2008, was re-approved for $487,204 in federal Job Access Reverse Commute /New Freedom grants, matched locally at 50% by Lake County and the Pace Suburban Bus Service. This curb-to-curb transportation service operates in four townships – Antioch, Avon, Grant and Lake Villa. It was created to expand A.M. and P.M. dial-a-ride service hours and provide trips to the Gurnee Mills area for seniors, low income and disabled riders. Registered residents from these four Townships obtain rides to medical appointments, work, school, shopping, and connections to Metra and Pace fixed routes in the northwest region of the County. Residents enroll through participating townships.

The LCCTSC is a volunteer organization established in 2004 to facilitate the implementation of coordinated, efficient, reliable and affordable public transportation throughout Lake County, with particular reference to paratransit, that will serve the needs of persons with disabilities or medical challenges, the elderly, low income residents and those in need of transportation for access to employment. The LCCTSC members – nonprofit organizations, government representatives and individuals – are volunteers who work to ensure that this mission is fulfilled.
