The Gurnee Police and Fire Departments jointly recognized KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort and Gurnee Mills Mall for recent donations made to both departments at the Village of Gurnee Chamber of Commerce membership meeting Wednesday, November 16th at 8 a.m. at the HeatherRidge Club House. Interim Police Chief Kevin Woodside and Fire Chief Fred N. Friedl both presented KeyLime Cove and Gurnee Mills with plaques at the meeting. KeyLime Cove donated $16,491.00 to each Department from a total of $65,966.00 raised during its 2011 Community Days event held in May and June.
Both Departments earmarked these funds for needed equipment and educational programs. The Gurnee Police Department used their funds to purchase two new digital video recording systems to replace older units in its patrol fleet and hold a Citizens Police Academy. The Academy is a popular community policing tool where citizens get a behind the scenes look at the Police Department and receive hands on experience in a variety of law enforcement activities.
The Gurnee Fire Department purchased two new thermal imaging cameras with its portion of the donations. These cameras are able to detect fractional changes in temperature and provide firefighters with an ability to clearly see into smoke and darkness to find the “seat of the fire.” By being able to pinpoint the fire, firefighters can minimize the amount of damage they do to a property in order to successfully extinguish a fire.
Fire Chief Friedl said regarding the donations, “On behalf of the Gurnee Fire Department, I applaud both Key Lime Cove and Gurnee Mills for providing outstanding support which has significantly improved the safety of our fire fighters and citizens.”
Police Commander Jay Patrick said, “We are very grateful for the contribution presented by KeyLime Cove and opportunities afforded us by Gurnee Mills.
