Zion man injured in Gurnee semi crash

A Zion man had to be extracted from his car recently when his Cadillac struck a semi-tractor trailer carrying lithium, according to a police report.

Sudarshan France, 19, suffered a fractured leg but no life-threatening injuries in the accident, and the truck driver, a man from Chicago, was uninjured in the Feb. 10 accident at Routes 41 and 21 in Gurnee, said Gurnee Police Cmdr. Jay Patrick.

It took about 20-30 minutes to extract France from his car, Patrick said. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by Gurnee Fire Paramedics.

France had apparently run a red light at the intersection. He was cited for disobeying the light, as well as for driving without insurance, Patrick said. Neither of the men involved in the accident was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

Although the semi carried a potentially hazardous material, lithium, there were no issues with the cargo because it wasn’t exposed to water, Patrick said.
