Join College of Lake County faculty and students in a discussion of the new action movie “Red Tails,” which tells the story of a crew of African American pilots from the Tuskegee training program. A group of CLC social sciences and communication arts faculty members will lead the discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 1-1:50 p.m.
Members of the community are invited to join the discussion of the historical, political and social issues brought up in the movie. “Red Tails” stars Chicago native Terrance Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Gerald McRaney and David Oyelowo. A limited number of movie posters, provided by Lucasfilm Ltd., will be given away to discussion attendees.
“Please see ‘Red Tails’ at your local theater, and then join us for a lively panel featuring professors from sociology, history, psychology, fire science, English and political science,” said organizer John Tenuto, professor of sociology. “We will discuss both the real history of the Tuskegee Airmen in their struggles for a ‘Double Victory’ against fascism abroad and racism at home, and the new George Lucas-produced film.”
Panel participants will include John Beltramo, Psy.D. (psychology); Patrick Gonder, Ph.D. (English); Gregory Gordon (history); Randy Justus (fire science); Adeline Pierre (political science); Phyllis Soybel, Ph.D. (history); John Tenuto (sociology); and María José Tenuto (sociology). During the discussion, historical photos and pictures from the film will be displayed.
The event will be held in room A162 (Anderson lecture hall) on the Grayslake campus (19351 W. Washington Street) and is free and open to the public. For more information, contact John Tenuto at (847) 543-2537.
