District 225 Special Olympics team debuts

On September 1, the inaugural District 225 Special Olympics team kicked off their season with a volleyball game. This is the first year that District 225 is participating in the Special Olympics.  A combination of students from GBN and GBS comprise the Glenbrook United team and represent District 225 at numerous sporting events in the surrounding suburbs.

Students participating on the Glenbrook United volleyball team include, Karmesha White, Maddy Halamaj, Patrick Nicholson, Bryan Nash, Kayla Buss, Yaseen Fawzi and Ryan Jennings from GBS; Sean Manso, Ryan Manso, Logan Pitman, and Daniel Raviv from GBN.

The Special Olympics provides students with positive opportunities to interact through teamwork and sportsmanship. The two main goals are to have fun and to compete to the best of one’s ability. Team sponsors Pa’al Joshi, Kim Perry and Terri Harris and a cadet of volunteers coordinate the events.
