Boy Scouts test their cold weather survival skills at the annual Klondike Cup

Glenview-- Boy Scouts from Troop 156, Troop 55 and Troop 32 participated in the annual Potawatomi District Klondike Cup on Saturday,February 4th. The Potawatomi District event was held at Camp Oakarro in Wadsworth, Illinois. Like Yukon prospectors during the Gold Rush, Scouts ordinarily pull their equipment dog sled style through the snow. The recent mild weather this year made mud the challenge, so most sleds sported wheels instead of skis. Skills the Scouts were required to show included using a compass, tying knots, fire building, and figuring out a way to get the gear cross an imaginary river. More than 90 Boy Scouts participated with Troop 924 from Evanston taking home the trophy.
