Thefts
Six fire extinguishers were taken from their cases Aug. 23 in a stairwell of a parking garage on the 2700 block of Sable Drive. Some of the extinguishers had been discharged in the elevator lobbies. Fire extinguishers also were found to have been discharged Aug. 24 in the stairways of another parking garage on the 2700 block of Aviator Lane.
Two men used deceptive tactics to enter a home at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 27 on the 2500 block of Fontana Drive. One man distracted the resident while the other took $125 worth of jewelry and personal items.
About 3,500 feet of copper worth about $15,000 was taken Aug. 23 from a construction site at Glenbrook Hospital, 2100 Pfingsten Road.
A wallet containing $520, a drivers license and credit cards was reported stolen Aug. 26 after the owner left it at the automated check-out counter at Home Depot, 2850 Patriot Boulevard.
A $300 cell phone was stolen Aug. 20 from a student’s backpack that was left unattended at the Glenbrook South High School field house during football practice.
Items valued at $150 were taken at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 from a woman’s purse she briefly left unattended in her shopping cart at Dominick’s, 1340 Patriot Boulevard.
Criminal damage
A vehicle was damaged with an unknown object at 11:30 p.m. Aug. 23 near Glenview and Shermer roads. The damage was estimated at $350.
Eleven wood planks were removed Aug. 26 or 27 from the piers at Lake Glenview. The loss was estimated at $500.
A vehicle’s $900 rear window was shattered using a garden brick Aug. 27 or 28 on the 700 block of Becker Road.
Residential burglary
A purse was taken Aug. 24 or 25 from a car parked in a garage on the 1500 block of Independence Boulevard. The purse and its contents were valued at $1,240.
Identity theft
A Glenview resident reported Aug. 28 that her friends had received an e-mail from her Hotmail account indicating she was stranded in London with her family and needed money. The e-mail contained some of the resident’s identifying information. Police said there are several variations of this scam, and the offenders usually access information via social networking sites.
A Glenview resident discovered Aug. 27 that someone withdrew $1,500 from his checking account.
Attempted burglary
A home’s front door was reported damaged at 3:50 p.m. Aug. 27 on the 4500 block of Seminole Drive. The damage was estimated at $700, and the door had been forced open. Nothing appeared disturbed in the house.
Drug possession
A 26-year-old Glenview man was issued a citation at 6:55 p.m. Aug. 27 on the 1300 block of Greenview Avenue for possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana.
Deceptive practices
An employee of Superior Optical, 2723 Pfingsten Road, received a $174.00 check Aug. 17 drawn on a closed account.
