Local Residents Receive Scholarships

The DuPage Library System (DLS) Scholarship Committee awarded six scholarships to DLS member library employees who are furthering their education in the library field. The winners were honored at a reception prior to the August 19, 2010 DLS board meeting and presented with ceremonial checks.

Chicago resident Shauna Porteus, Business Office Department Head, Bloomingdale Public Library, was awarded a $3,000 scholarship toward her coursework in the Master of Library Science (MLS) online program at San Jose State University.

Wood Dale resident Anna Demitraszek, Adult Services Assistant, Wood Dale Public Library District, received a $1,500 scholarship toward her coursework in the Master of Library Science (MLS) program at Dominican University.

Streamwood resident Rebekah Sorensen, Children’s Assistant, Poplar Creek Public Library District (Streamwood), received a $1,000 scholarship toward her coursework in the Master of Library Science (MLS) online program at the University of Illinois.

Sugar Grove resident Inge Buchberger, school librarian at Aurora East High School, East Aurora School District #131, received a $1,000 scholarship toward her Library Technical Assistant (LTA) coursework at Waubonsee Community College.

North Aurora resident Christine Heins, Library Director at Johnson Elementary School, Community Unit School District #200 (Warrenville) was awarded a $1,500 scholarship for her work toward the School Library Endorsement (SLE) at Illinois State University.

Geneva resident Ellen Anderson, Geneva Public Library District, received $1,000 toward her coursework in the Master of Library Science (MLS) program at the University of Illinois.  (unable to attend reception)

The system consists of almost 140 members, including academic, public, school, and special libraries in portions of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will Counties.
