Donley’s Old West Steakhouse and Village Hall Banquets is pleased to announce the hiring of renowned local chef John Hennessy as the restaurant’s Executive Chef. Chef Hennessy brings his signature flair for “simple things done right” to the Union, IL restaurant and banquet hall.
Chef Hennessy recently debuted a new senior menu for the restaurant, and a new general menu will be in place toward the end of August. The senior menu, available Sunday-Thursday from 4-6 pm, features “more comfort food with good quality, at a lower price point.” The restaurant’s new regular menu will include his signature dish, Hazelnut-Crusted Walleye with wild rice.
The Old West Steakhouse is known for southwestern-style food, featuring great steaks and seafood. In the last few years, Chef Hennessy designed and opened Montarra in Algonquin, as a partner with Centerville Properties. Following that, he consulted for Brass Restaurant and Microbrewery, where he won awards in the Brewmaster’s Shootout for Best Food and Best Food and Beer Pairings for two years in a row. In July ’07, he opened Hennessy’s Steak and Seafood in Elgin, and has also served as executive chef with Boulder Ridge Country Club in Lake in the Hills.
“Donley’s is an opportunity to serve upscale steaks,” he said, “in a family-friendly atmosphere, but with my flair.” That “flair” includes his “world-famous” macaroni and cheese, a grown-up version of the classic dish. “It’s a great fit. I always had that homestyle flair to my cooking – turkey, pot roast, meatloaf. I like to eat, and this is what I like.” Old West Steakhouse is located next to Donley’s Wild West Town, at the intersection of Union Road and Marengo Road in Union, IL. The restaurant’s décor features southwestern fixtures, including antique photos and artifacts in a fun, family-friendly setting. The large bar comes straight from Houston, TX, and is a meeting place for people from all over McHenry County. The attached banquet hall can serve up to 400 for dinner.
