SEPT. 9 FUNDRAISER COLLECTING PERSONAL CARE ITEMS FOR LOUISIANA MISSION TRIP   If you can spare basic personal hygiene and care items, such as disposable razors, shampoo and toothpaste, Rejoice Lutheran Church in Geneva will trade your donations for a free bowl of gumbo. Rejoice, which is sending 30+ adult missionaries to Louisiana to build homes with Thrivent Builds/Habitat for Humanity, is hosting a fundraiser and donation collection at Graham's Ice Cream in Geneva on Thursday, Sept. 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m.   Donations of personal care items will be given to a homeless shelter and soup kitchen in Slidell, La., where the Rejoice missionaries will serve meals between building duties at homes damaged by Hurrican Katrina.    The following items would be suitable for donation: travel size soaps and body washes, disposable razors, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lip balm, nail clippers, emery boards, combs/hair brushes, deodorant, (non-chocolate) candy, gum, and small packets of coffee or hot chocolate. Cash is also welcome; any cash donations will go toward purchasing canned goods in Slidell for the soup kitchen.   Rejoice missionaries will work in Louisiana the week of Nov. 6-13, 2010, rebuilding homes and lives damaged by Hurricane Katrina, as well as serving in the homeless shelter/soup kitchen. Adult mission trips are an annual event for Rejoice Lutheran; tthe high school youth group also sends missionaries to different locations within the U.S. and Mexico each year.
