Local artist makes midwest debut at Geneva Arts Fair

The Geneva Arts Fair, July 25th and 26th on  will host Perry Haas, a native of Geneva, for his first showcase as a ceramic design professional.

Haas is a lifetime resident of Geneva, Illinois. He graduated from Geneva High School in 2004 and is currently in his senior year at Utah State University in Logan, Utah pursuing his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Design.

Haas has traveled with Utah State in delegations and exchange programs to China for 3 months and has recently returned from South Korea. It is in Asia where he has learned more about design and different firing processes.  During Perrys time overseas he studied under two ceramic masters and has also attended classes at Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in Jingdezhen,China where he is featured in the museums public collections.

He has exhibited in 2009 at the National Council for Education on Ceramic Arts Biennial in Tempe, Arizona where he won the NCECA Biennial Purchase Award. Haas states Im engaged in creating ulitarian forms that are wood fired and my intent is to build an intimate relationship with the viewer. Both function and form is deeply considered while choosing pieces to fire in an atmospheric firing process. This firing method has captured my interest because of its ability to record the history of the clay revealing subtle texture along with layering of natural ash glaze. The pieces I create are intended to be used and the relationship is complete when the form becomes part of a daily ritual.

Haas has chosen the Geneva Arts Fair as his first debut into the Midwest and looks forward to seeing his neighbors and supporters of the arts at the Geneva Arts Fair, he will have pieces for purchase located in the Emerging Artists section on Third Street in Geneva near Dodson Place.

Currently Haas has pieces currently available for sale at the Strawflower Shop 210 W. State Street in Geneva. Perry can be reached at P.haas3011@gmail.com.
