Financial aid professionals from Olivet Nazarene University and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will assist students and their families in completing the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application on Saturday, February 18, 2012. They will also be available to explain the financial aid process and answer any questions.
This workshop is open to the community and will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in the main computer lab (Room 103) of Olivet’s Weber Center on campus. There is no charge to attend.
Illinois State Senator Toi Hutchinson is co-hosting this event with Olivet and ISAC, and she will be present at the event. A public servant for more than 15 years, she has served the 40th district of Illinois since January 2009, representing portions of Cook, Iroquois, Kankakee and Will counties.
Families of current or potential college students need to complete the FAFSA as the starting point for the financial aid process — federal and state. Usually submitted in February to meet the March 1 deadline, the FAFSA uses a family’s financial information from the previous calendar year. Tax records, as well as other financial information, are needed to complete it.
Those attending this workshop must bring the following items with them:
•2011 tax information (parents’ and students 1040A and/or 1040EZ Federal Tax Return and W-2 forms)
•Student’s and parents’ (and stepparents’) driver’s license, Social Security card and alien registration number (if applicable)
•Records of untaxed income (welfare, social security, TANF, veterans’ non educational benefits, etc.)
•Current bank statements
•Current mortgage information for any properties other than the family’s principal residence
•Financial records of business, farm (if not family’s principal place of residence) and other assets (stocks, bonds, and other investments)
•Calculator
Two items need special attention by attendees before they arrive at the workshop:
•If your federal taxes are not yet completed for 2011, bring your 2010 tax forms and your 2010 W-2's so you can get an estimate on tax information.
•Complete the FAFSA worksheet at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/fotw1213/pdf/fafsaws13c.pdf before you come to the workshop. This will help make the event more productive for you.
