Fast Facts: After splitting a pair of conference match-ups with Homewood-Flossmoor this season, Lincoln-Way East pulled off a win in Tuesday’s Class 4A Sandburg Sectional semifinal, with H-F playing without leading scorer Charnell Reed. That gave the Griffins a shot at the sectional title against a Marist team that is in the midst of one of its best seasons in school history. Both Bolton and Rouse have already surpassed 1,000 career points for Marist despite only being juniors. The RedHawks won their first 19 games this season before their lone loss to Trinity and managed their first unbeaten conference mark in school history. That continues a solid run of success under coach Mary Pat Connolly, winning seven regional titles since 2004, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in 2008 in Class 4A. The RedHawks won their own regional in dominant fashion, blowing out Thornton and TF North to win the title. Likewise, Lincoln-Way rolled past Crete-Monee and Lincoln-Way North to win the Lincoln-Way Central Regional title. Lincoln-Way East is looking for its first sectional title in its 11th season as a varsity program.
