Lincoln-Way East High School Athletic Director David Brost who recently published a book about the school’s first State Softball Champions will reflect on the achievement during a book talk Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Mokena Public Library.

He’ll also conduct a book signing Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Empire Books Inc., 625 N. LaGrange Road, Frankfort.

“This was a remarkable accomplishment,” said Brost, who recently published a book titled “We Can Do This: An Amazing Story that Must Be Told for all who Believe in Miracles.”

The book chronicles the 2001-2002 girls’ softball team, which won the State Championship its first year of existence. The team had no seniors that year – only freshmen, sophomores and juniors.

Never in the history of Illinois high school sports had a team won a state championship in its first year without a senior class, said Brost, and he knew he had to put the story in writing for future generations to remember.

“I like to recognize people,” he explained, “and this book is my way of rewarding, not only the players and coaches, but also their families, friends and Lincoln-Way community.”

Brost will talk about the book and the remarkable team from 1 to 2 p.m. Sept 11 at the Mokena Public Library, 11327 W. 195th St., Mokena.

He’ll be available again Sept. 22 to sign books at Frankfort’s Empire Books Inc. from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Copies of the book will be available at both locations for $14. Additional copies may be purchased by contacting Brost at hawkbrost@hotmail.com.

Those interested in attending the book signing Sept. 11 at Mokena Public Library are encouraged to register by calling 708-479-9663. If special accommodations are required, please notify the library at least seven days in advance.
