Four south suburban teens charged with burglarizing five homes in south suburban Frankfort and Mokena were each being held today in the Will County Adult Detention Facility in lieu of $250,000 bail each.
Tamer S. Almasri, 18, and Tawfikyaza S. Almasri, 19, of the 19900 block Pinegrove Drive in Mokena; Matthew J. Blankenship, 18, of the 5800 block West 89th Place, Oak Lawn; and Kenneth R. Pawlak, 19, of the 9100 block South Mayfield Avenue, Oak Lawn, allegedly committed the daytime break-ins during a period from Sept. 30 through Oct. 19.
The four teens were arrested in Frankfort Friday and are charged with Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 and Oct. 6 burglaries in Mokena and Oct. 14 and Oct. 16 burglaries in Frankfort.
Frankfort Police Chief John Burica credited the intensive daily patrolling of his officers with helping to capture the suspects.
An officer stopped and questioned two youths wearing hooded sweatshirts that partly covered their faces, Burica said. Frankfort police quickly rounded up the other two and determined all four appeared likely to have been involved in the recent break-ins.
Mokena Police Chief Randy Rajewski, whose department jointly investigated the incidents with Frankfort Police, said in each burglary a window was broken, someone reached in and opened the window and then entry was made through the window.
“After the Oct. 6 incident, we didn’t get any more, and that’s when the burglaries started in Frankfort,” he said.
Rajewski and Burica both said their villages experience occasional burglaries, but said those events tended to be crimes of opportunity.
Bond was set Saturday in Will County Holiday Court.
Rajewski said investigators have found several locations where the allegedly stolen property was stashed. “Our focus right is is reuniting the people with their property,” he said.
