Hauser Jr. High Hosts Seguin Fundraiser
The District 96 Hauser Junior High Cougars Seventh and Eighth Grade Basketball teams with Athletic Director Katie Kempe hosted the Seguin Services Penguins Basketball teams on Monday, February 6, at the Hauser gymnasium to practice the sport both teams love as well as raise funds for Seguin. Seguin Services is a nonprofit agency which provides services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and other special needs throughout metropolitan Chicago.
The teams played two games while the community and Hauser student body packed the stands. The Hauser students welcomed Seguin and were very supportive. In fact, the Hauser cheerleaders and Cougar team members cheered on their opponents throughout the games. In addition, $500 was raised from the students and community through admissions and concessions to benefit Seguin’s Special Olympic Penguins team and People First advocacy group.
It was a truly wonderful event and showed the generosity and good-natured attitude of the students at Hauser Jr. High! Leslie Berman, Hauser Jr. High Principal, was equally thankful for the opportunity for the students to grow in their character development. She explained, “These opportunities show the students there are fewer differences between us all than they might think. We should do this every year!”
