A Forest Park police officer responding to a robbery call on Harlem Avenue swerved to avoid a car that pulled in front of him and crashed into a light pole at 10:07 p.m. Feb. 16.
The officer was not injured and a second patrol car proceeded to the alleged robbery in progress at the 7-Eleven at 205 N. Harlem Ave. A man was at the counter yelling at the clerk and demanding money. The responding officer ordered the man on the ground and when the man did not follow instructions, he was tasered and tackled.
After further investigation officers learned that the man was from Chicago had been panhandling outside the convenience store and was asked to leave. But he instead entered the store and repeatedly demanded money until the clerk gave him some. Then man allegedly became even more aggressive and demanded more money, according to police reports.
He was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass to land and resisting arrest.
