Oak Park man guilty in fatal hit-and-run in Forest Park

Victoria Pierce, Special to the Tribune

A Cook County jury today convicted a 41-year-old Oak Park man in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a Forest Park woman who had passed out in the alley behind a bar in May 2008.

Kevin Olis was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He faces three to 14 years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 6.

Olis had been out on bond, but Judge Carol Kipperman revoked his bond Friday after hearing from prosecutors that he had received supervision for a misdemeanor hit-and-run property damage accident less than a month before he fatally struck 50-year-old Lydia Salmanis of Forest Park.

Edwin Salmanis, the twin brother of Lydia, said he was relieved upon hearing the guilty verdict.

“I’m really relieved. It’s closure now for our family,” he said.
