Evanston City Council welcomes new mayor, aldermen: part 2
It was the end of one era and the start of another at the Evanston City Council meeting Monday, May 11, as the 77th Council said goodbye to retiring Mayor Lorraine H. Morton and retiring aldermen Cheryl Wollin, Steve Bernstein, Edmund Moran Jr. and Anjana Hansen, and welcomed five new aldermen and a new mayor, former Seventh Ward Ald. Elizabeth Tisdahl.
Joining Mayor Tisdahl in the 78th Evanston City Council were aldermen Judy Fiske (Ward 1), Donald Wilson (Ward 4), Mark Tendam (Ward 6), Jane Grover (Ward 7) and Coleen Burrus (Ward 9), along with returning aldermen Lionel Jean-Baptiste (Ward 2), Melissa A. Wynne (Ward 3), Delores A. Holmes (Ward 5) and Ann Rainey (Ward 8).
Much of the night's events paid tribute to outgoing Mayor Morton, who worked as an educator, principal and alderman before her election as mayor in 1993. As one of their last acts as aldermen, the 77th Council approved a resolution renaming the Evanston Civic Center the "Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center."
Other tributes were paid to retiring aldermen Cheryl Wollin, Steve Bernstein, Edmund Moran Jr. and Anjana Hansen.
