Numbers are pervasive, omnipresent, and in the Evanston Dance Ensemble’s March 10th premiere, they are the inspiration for “Count Me In.” In celebration of its 15th anniversary season, EDE adds to its list of original productions with “Count Me In,” which includes 14 dance pieces exploring the relationship humans have with numbers. The production includes projections from renowned artist John Boesche and the artistic talent of eleven choreographers, including special guest, award-winning dancer and choreographer Ron De Jesus. “Count Me In” will be performed at the Josephine Louis Theater on Northwestern University’s campus (20 Art Circle Drive) on the following dates: March 10 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; March 11 at 2 p.m.; March 16 at 7:30 p.m.; March 17 at 4 p.m.; and March 18 at 2 p.m.
Over the past 14 seasons, EDE has gained a reputation for creating innovative, exciting productions for audiences of all ages. Co-artistic directors Béa Rashid and Christina Ernst have brought in top choreographic talent to create professional caliber performances in a wide range of dance styles. For the company’s latest original production, choreographers were asked to pick a number between 1 and 14 that inspired their creative side. The result is 14 unique dance pieces and a 15th anniversary retrospective finale to conclude the show.
In addition to works from Rashid and Ernst, choreographers for “Count Me In” include: special guest choreographer Ron De Jesus; Joffrey Ballet dancer Ariel Cisneros; Allison Kurtz Volkers of Dance Center Evanston (DCE) and director of EDE’s new ensemble, ede2; Julie Cartier, artistic director of Especially Tap Chicago Dance Company; Enid Smith of Enid Smith Dance; Stephanie Paul, co-founder and artistic director of Be the Groove; Mike Gosney, founder and artistic director of Elements Contemporary Ballet; Vicki Barlow, former dancer with the Chicago Ballet and a DCE instructor; and professional clown Craig Sjogerman.
