Dr. Julia Davids is the New Music Director of North Shore Choral Society

 

Dr. Julia Davids became the new Music Director of the Evanston based 140+ member, North Shore Choral Society (NSCS) with the 2009-2010 season.

Dr. Davids succeeded Dr. Donald Chen who retired after 24 years as NSCS’s director.

Julia Davids has a doctor of Music (DM) in choral conducting from Northwestern University, and Masters in Music (MM) degrees in choral conducting and voice performance from the University of Michigan. Her Bachelor in Education (BE) and Bachelor in Music (BM) are from the University of Western Ontario.

On the faculty of Loyola University, Dr. Julia Davids teaches voice and conducting, and directs the Loyola Chorus. Davids is Director of Music Ministries at Trinity United Methodist Church, Wilmette. She served as Music Director/Conductor of the Camerata Singers of Lake Forest for four seasons.

Davids resides in Skokie with her husband, baroque violinist Martin Davids, and their two children.

The London, Ontario, native is a founding member of the Canadian Chamber Choir (CCC), Canada’s national choral ensemble providing a professional-level choral environment for Canadian singers, conductors and composers. Artistic Director of the CCC since 2004, Dr. Davids has led the ensemble on concert and workshop tours of Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan.

An accomplished soprano soloist, Dr. Davids has appeared with Chicago’s Callipygian Players and Ars Musica, the Vancouver Cantata Singers and with Toronto’s Opera Atelier, Aradia Ensemble, Chamber Choir, and Consort. Recent engagements include Mozart’s Requiem and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the University of Illinois Chicago Chorus and Handel’s Messiah with the St. Cecelia Singers.

The North Shore Choral Society (NSCS), a not-for-profit community chorus, has served Chicago’s northern suburbs since 1936. Hundreds of non-professional singers have performed choral masterworks, both classical and contemporary with renowned soloists and orchestras.
