Renowned healthcare reform advocate was among first to urge Keenan-Devlin to run 

It was standing room only Tuesday night at a private home in Evanston when Dr. Quentin Young came to promote two causes – meaningful health care reform and the candidacy of Patrick Keenan-Devlin for the Democratic nomination for State Representative, in the seat being vacated by Julie Hamos. Speaking to a group of 50 people packed into a living room, Dr. Young analyzed the politics of the current health care reform debate and strongly made the case for single payer health care. Dr. Young urged the group to work for the election of Keenan-Devlin in the February 2nd Democratic primary. Dr. Young told the crowd, “I have worked with Patrick on health care issues for years. I know that there are a lot of candidates in this race, but I can tell you from personal experience that Patrick has already shown that he will be an exceptional legislator for progressive issues.”

Dr. Young was among the first people to urge Keenan-Devlin to run for the 18th district seat. Dr. Young is arguably Chicago’s best known physician – a lifelong advocate for universal access to health care, he serves as the chairman of Physicians for a National Health Plan and chairman of the board of the Chicago-based Health and Medicine Policy Research Group. He is a frequent contributer to Chicago Public Radio on health care issues. For many years Dr. Young was chairman of medicine for Cook County Hospital. As a private physician, his patients have included numerous influential individuals, including President Barack Obama, Govenror Patrick Quinn, and Mayor Harold Washington.

Across the district, supporters have opened their homes and volunteers have gone door to door building local support. Activists for health care, LGBT issues, and womens issues have been holding events in support of Keenan-Devlins candidacy.
