An ex-Hammond Public Works employee is facing charges after he was caught on camera bashing a DoorDash driver in the head with a hammer inside a Wendy’s.

Artez Knox, 44, was charged Wednesday with battery.

He has not been arrested in the case and is ordered held on a $3,000 cash bond.

Police were called at 1:10 p.m. Aug. 4 to Wendy’s, 1824 165th St.

The man told police he went into the bathroom, when Knox followed. The sign said one person at a time. He told Knox he was being “rude.”

“You better know MMA,” Knox replied.

After the driver went to the counter to get the delivery order, Knox came back inside the restaurant and repeated how he should know mixed martial arts.

After the driver said to leave him alone, Knox pulled a hammer from his pocket and hit him in the back of the head, according to court documents.

Knox chased him as the man ran to the opposite side, continuing to hit him.

The driver said Knox was in his “40s,” wearing a construction vest, tinted safety glasses, a red shirt, dark jeans and blue and black cowboy boots.

Knox was fired from Hammond Public Works after the incident, according to the affidavit.
