Three 13-year-olds charged with robbery

Evanston police arrested three 13-year-old male Chicago residents on robbery charges after they allegedly pushed another 13-year-old against a wall, punched him and took his iPhone, authorities said. An adult was charged with disorderly conduct for failing to intervene.

Officers responded to a robbery call at about 6:15 p.m. Jan. 15 in the 900 block of Church Street. Once on scene, officers made contact with the alleged victim, a 13-year-old Evanston resident, who said he was walking east on Church Street when he noticed an unknown male walk next to him and felt someone touch his left pocket, police said.

When the victim stopped to investigate, someone pushed him against a brick wall while several other subjects surrounded him, police said. One subject allegedly grabbed the victim’s iPhone out of his jacket pocket while another subject punched him in the face, police said.

The victim was with another 13-year-old, who was also patted down, police said. That individual began to yell and drew attention, which caused the offenders to flee south along the west side of the CTA tracks, police said.

Responding officers canvassed the area and responded to the nearby CTA station, where they located people matching the description of the offenders, authorities said.

The three juveniles arrested were petitioned to court on robbery charges. A fourth individual, identified by police as 18-year-old Jeronne Wilford, of Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct after police said he was present at the time of the robbery and did nothing to stop it.
