City adds second façade improvement info session

Commercial property owners and business owners will have another chance to learn how the city could help them make façade improvements to their buildings.

Evanston officials will host a second information session about the Façade Improvement Program at 8 a.m. on Jan. 7 in room 2404 of the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

More than 50 people attended the first informational session Jan. 4 to learn about the program, which provides financial assistance to those looking to improve or enhance the exterior of their commercial buildings.

Attending the Jan. 7 informational session is required for those interested in participating in the program, however, those who attended the Jan. 4 meeting are not required to attend.

The city’s Economic Development Committee reviews all façade improvement applications, and makes recommendations to the full City Council to either approve or deny an application.

Approved applicants are eligible to receive up to $10,000, or possibly more, in a 50/50 cost sharing basis for such projects as painting, tuck pointing, light installation, door or window replacements and other façade improvement projects.
