A television attorney, an Iron Chef and a Nobel Prize winner will all take part in Northwestern University’s homecoming festivities next weekend.
Actress and NU alum Stephanie March, most known for her role as an assistant district attorney on the NBC television series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” will return to Evanston to serve as grand marshal of homecoming parade, scheduled for 8 p.m. Oct. 22.
March will be joined by her husband chef Bobby Flay, who appears on numerous Food Network programs including “Iron Chef America” and “Throwdown with Bobby Flay.”
NU professor and winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economics Dale T. Mortensen is also scheduled to appear in the parade, as is his wife Beverly Mortensen, an adjunct lecturer with Northwestern’s religious studies department.
The parade steps off from Foster Street and Sheridan Road and will travel north on Sheridan to Lincoln. Access to and from NU’s campus will be limited starting at 5:30 p.m. on parade day and continuing throughout the parade. Visitors heading north on Sheridan Road will still have access to Campus Drive.
The parade is one of several public celebrations scheduled for this year’s homecoming, themed “Where the Wildcats Are.”
A pep rally and concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Deering Meadow, 1934 Sheridan Road, and will feature appearances by Northwestern’s marching band, cheerleaders, football coach Pat Fitzgerald and members of the football team. In the event of rain, the pep rally and concert will be moved to Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive.
The 5-1 Wildcat football team will welcome Big Ten rival Michigan State to Ryan Field at 11 a.m. Oct. 23. During the first quarter break, Northwestern Alumni Association President Charles Katzenmeyer will crown the 2010 homecoming king and queen.
Tickets to the game are available online at NUsports.com, by calling 847-491-2287 or by e-mailing cat-tix@northwestern.edu.
