ICGS Fifth Graders Dig Up Their Roots
On Thursday, February 16th, fifth graders at Immaculate Conception Grade School shared stories of their ancestry at their Heritage Fair. In preparation for the fair, students created their family tree and interviewed a living relative. Dressed in the colors of their ethnicity, students presented the story of that relative before an audience of family members and classmates. Many of the children told stories of grandparents that grew up during simpler times in large families. There were many stories of hardship and poverty, military service and working at a young age. After all of the presentations, everyone present was invited to partake in an extensive buffet of family recipes that included such foods as Irish sausage and soda bread, Kolacky, Spaetzle, Pizzelles, Mince Pie, stuffed cabbage, and scones.
