District 205 approves contract for 240 support staff

The Elmhurst School District 205 board voted unanimously this week to accept a new three-year contract for school support staff.

The contract is with the Paraprofessional and School Related Personnel Council, which ratified the contract on Aug. 26.

The contract includes a pay freeze in year one, with no increase on the step, which are in-grade pay increases or periodic increases in an employee’s rate of pay from one level of the grade to the next higher level of that grade.

The contract provides for a maximum increase for 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 of 75 percent of the Consumer Price Index, with a minimum of one percent and a maximum of 3.75 percent and no step movement.

“It is a fair contract,” said board president Peggy Ostojic at Monday’s special board meeting. “It balances the needs and interests of the district with those of the union.”

The district has 240 employees who are members of the union. They work in such jobs as secretaries and classroom aides.
