$9K diamond engagement ring stolen, and more

The following were taken from Elgin Police reports on Feb. 20.

Theft

  • A diamond engagement ring, valued at $9,000, went missing Feb. 19 after a woman left it in the bathroom while she washed her hands at Burnt Toast, 2492 N. Randall Road.
  • A 48-year-old homeless man was arrested at 3:11 p.m. Feb. 17 in the Metra lot, 85 National St., and charged with misdemeanor theft after he took a wheel off a bicycle in a bike rack and put it on his own bike.
  • A 21-year-old Aurora woman and a 27-year-old Aurora woman were arrested at 4:26 p.m. Feb. 17 at Burlington Coat Factory, 250 S. Randall Road, and each charged with misdemeanor retail theft after they hid clothing and other items, valued at $183.94, in their bags.
  • Two people stole a bottle of vodka, valued at $20.49, at 9:58 p.m. Feb. 17 from Meijer, 815 S. Randall Road, and drove away.

Burglary

  • An Illinois Tollway I-Pass responder, a digital camera — valued at $185 — and a handicap license plate placard, were stolen sometime before 2:45 p.m. Feb. 17 from an apartment in the 700 block of North Spring Street.

Battery

  • A 25-year-old homeless man was arrested at 5:25 p.m. Feb. 18 at 33 Clocktower Plaza, and charged with misdemeanor counts of battery and disorderly conduct after he grabbed a woman outside a store in the shopping complex, and told her, “somebody is going to die today.”

Property damage

  • Part of a wooden fence was cut down Feb. 18 in the 400 block of Hopkins Avenue.
  • The front windshield of a vehicle was damaged between Feb. 10 and 15 while it was parked in a lot in the 1200 block of E. Chicago Street.

Driving under the influence

  • A 57-year-old Fitchburg, Wis. man was arrested at 2:08 a.m. Feb. 19 near Douglas Avenue and Kimball Street, and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and cited for driving without headlamps and improper lane usage after a traffic stop.
  • A 24-year-old Elgin man was arrested at 11:25 p.m. Feb. 18 in the 400 block of Summit Street, and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended or revoked license, and cited for making an improper turn and improperly signaling after a traffic stop.
