Cash in vehicle replaced with smaller amount, and more

The following items were taken from Elgin Police reports on Feb. 1.

Burglary

  • About $1,850 in cash was stolen Jan. 31 from an SUV parked in a church parking lot in the 1000 block of North Randall Road. Whoever took the money left $52 in cash in its place. The car door might have been left unlocked.
  • An antique clock was stolen between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Jan. 31 from a home in the 1000 block of Reserve Drive. A door might have been left unlocked.

Fraud

  • A man used a counterfeit $20 bill on Jan. 21 and again on Jan. 28 to purchase a $1 tobacco product at a gas station in the 100 block of Kimball Street. When an employee confronted the man on Jan. 28, he ran away.

Theft

  • A 24-year-old Streamwood man was arrested around 5 p.m. Jan. 31 at Target, 300 S. Randall Road, and charged with misdemeanor retail theft after he tried to steal several computer hard drives.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen from an SUV between Jan. 27 and Jan. 30 while it was parked in a lot in the 1900 block of Holmes Road.
  • A registration sticker was stolen off a car between Jan. 15 and Jan. 31 while it was parked on a street in Elgin.

Property damage

  • A car was egged between 6 p.m. Jan. 29 or 6 a.m. Jan. 30 while it was parked in the 100 block of Pauline Drive.

Drunken driving

  • A 26-year-old Sugar Grove man was arrested around 11 p.m. Jan. 31 near Bluff City Boulevard and St. Charles Street, and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and resisting arrest after he failed sobriety tests after a routine traffic stop, then ran from police.
