Patrons of the Gail Borden Public Library can peruse a hallway dedicated to sculptures, paintings and other creations of local artists.
The Art for All art league’s annual library exhibit opened last week and runs through Dec. 29. This year, 26 members of the art league have displayed 34 pieces, said Sandy Kaptain, organizer and league member.

Those pieces include drawings, paintings, photography, and a sculpture of a woman made entirely of keys from computer key boards, which won best in show.
“It’s a very interesting show,” Kaptain said. “There’s just such a variety of art.”
The purpose of the show is not only to allow local artists to display their art, but for members of the community who usually aren’t exposed to art to see what is out there, Kaptain said.
“The neat thing about the library, is it generates more than 2,000 in foot traffic a day,” she said. “People who might feel intimidated by galleries can just come to enjoy the art. This way it’s available for everyone to enjoy.”
Plus, the art is not for sale during the show, so there’s no pressure to purchase a piece, Kaptain said.
The show also alerts the community to the Art for All league, recruiting new members. Kaptain said the group is always looking for more people to share their art.
“Art…and other creative media can be kind of a solo thing that you do, but it’s great to get together with like-minded people and share that,” she said.
The exhibit is available during normal library hours, posted at www.gailborden.info. Information on the league is at www.artforall-elgin.com.
