Elgin residents interested in environmental initiatives can begin applying for a seat on the city’s new sustainability commission.
The group will help the city implement projects identified in its sustainability action plan and will assist in doling out funds from the Neighborhood Improvement Grant Program.
Applicants for a three-year seat must be a resident, city employee, Elgin business owner or full-time student in Elgin. The nine member commission will include three members of city staff and meet monthly.
Applications are due at 5 p.m. Sept. 16 and commissioners will be chosen in September or October.
The application is available now on the city’s sustainability website www.cityofelgin.org/green. Community members looking for a different way to help out with sustainability issues can instead join one of nine working groups by going to http://cityofelgin.org/forms.aspx?FID=135.
