Driver gets battery charge after throwing parking ticket at officer, and more

The following items were taken from Elgin police records on May 2.

Battery

  • A 53-year-old Elgin man was arrested about 9:42 a.m. May 2 in the 1900 block of Monday Drive and charged with misdemeanor battery after throwing his parking citation at a police officer.
  • A 19-year-old man suffered a split lip after being beaten up at Liberty and Jay about 3:51 p.m. April 29.
  • A woman was chased, grabbed by the hair, slapped and punched in the 300 block of Lilac about 7:48 p.m. May 2. The woman, who knew her attacker, refused medical treatment.

Damage

  • A window was smashed on a 2008 Chevrolet Express van in the 100 block of South Worth Street April 28 or 29.
  • A window was broken at Ace Hardware, 1158 Lillian St., between 8 and 9:22 p.m. May 2.
  • A Honda Accord was keyed while in a parking lot in the 1800 block of West Highland between 8:45 and 10:30 a.m. April 30. The owner believes someone she knows is responsible.
  • Three tires were slashed on a 2003 Ford Explorer in the 1200 block of Apple Lane between 10 p.m. April 29 and 1:30 a.m. April 30.

Disorderly conduct

  • Two women got into an argument in the 200 block of Locust Street about 8 a.m. April 29 over a man they were both seeing. One woman reported the other had threatened her with scissors, but the man did not see any weapons during the incident and police did not see her with one.
  • A couple in the 1300 block of Demmond reported their neighbor has been harassing them for about a year by watching them and once making an inappropriate gesture.

Theft

  • Fence posts, valued at $89.68, and a charcoal grill were stolen from a home in the 800 block of Hastings between 3 p.m. April 25 and 2 p.m. April 29.
  • A laptop was stolen from a Metra train between 4:50 and 5:50 p.m. April 26. Someone later deposited a binder from the laptop bag into a post office drop-off box.
  • An insulin pump, valued at $300, was stolen from someone who left it on a table at Dairy Queen, 704 W. Chicago St., between 5 and 7 p.m. April 29.
  • A man pumped $24.99 in gas into his gar and left without paying at BP gas station, 1190 N. McLean, about 5:40 p.m. May 2.

Burglary

  • A purse containing $350 and a debit card was stolen from a Ford Windstar van in the 200 block of DuPage Street at about 11:30 a.m. April 30, possibly by someone who knows the owner.
  • A 42-inch flat screen TV, valued at $400, was stolen from an unlocked home in the 200 block of South Edison Avenue between midnight and 9:30 a.m. May 2.
  • Two Nintendo video game systems, a video game, laptop, jewelry valued at over $5,000 and a change purse containing about $1,000 were stolen from a home in the 500 block of Laurel Street between 10:15 and 2:45 p.m. May 2. Someone broke a back bedroom window to gain entry.
  • Numerous items including a 47-inch TV, Xbox 360 system, video games, cell phone, jewelry, laptop, cameras, a GPS, airline tickets and $900 were stolen from a home in the 1200 block of Sebring Circle between noon and 3:55 p.m. May 2. Someone kicked in the front door to gain entry.

Attempted burglary

  • Someone tried to pry open an overhead garage door in the 600 block of Lavoie between noon and 10:30 p.m. April 30.
  • A 2008 Chevrolet Aveo’s driver’s side door lock was pushed in or punched while in the parking lot of Jewel, 1040 Summit St., between 2 and 2:30 p.m. May 1. The door remained locked and nothing was stolen.

Forgery

  • A man’s check was stolen and cashed for $150 on April 19. The man believes his former house guest is responsible.

Obstruction

  • A 23-year-old woman, from the 1500 block of Maple Lane, was arrested about 3:11 a.m. April 30 at Afterset bar, 158 Symphony Way, and charged with obstructing a peace officer, obstructing identification and public intoxication.

Telephone harassment

  • A woman has been receiving harassing text messages from another woman regarding an affair one had with the other’s husband.
  • A man in the 600 block of Sherman has been receiving harassing phone calls at all hours of the day since November.

Property dispute

  • Property was taken from a home in the 100 block of Fawn Lane. The resident told police he is divorcing his wife and she was not allowed to remove household items.

DUI

  • A 21-year-old man from Manchester Court, South Elgin, was arrested after an accident about 6:34 a.m. May 1 at Dundee Avenue and Summit Street, and charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to give information after striking property. The man struck a traffic signal pole at the intersection.
  • A 59-year-old Elgin man, from the 100 block of Fawn, was arrested about 6:15 p.m. May 2 near his home and charged with DUI after his neighbors told police he was always intoxicated and had just struck his own mailbox. His preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.225.

Trespass

  • A 49-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 3:45 p.m. May 2 at Grand Victoria Casino, 250 S. Grove Ave., and charged with criminal trespass because he had banned himself from the casino.

Litter

  • A 22-year-old man from Leawood Drive was arrested about 3:19 p.m. May 2 at Hiawatha and Grand and charged with littering from a vehicle.
