The Da Capo Duo Concert to benefit the Elburn and Countryside Community Center

The Da Capo Duo, Kristin Paxinos and Ben Westfall

The Da Capo Duo, Kristin Paxinos and Ben Westfall

On Saturday December 11th, The Da Capo Duo, flutist Kristin Paxinos and guitarist Ben Westfall, will delight concert goers with an exciting mix of holiday, classical, and popular favorites. The program will be highlighted by Ben Westfall’s brand new arrangements, featuring entertaining renditions of Carol of the Bells; O Christmas Tree; O Come, O Come, Emmanuel; O, Holy Night; Silent Night; and Away in a Manger. The duo will also perform Westfall’s flute and guitar adaptations of popular favorites such as Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water, and John Denver’s Annie’s Song. The program will also include Westfall’s superb arrangements of Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Arabesque No. 1, and Reverie.

Kristin Paxinos is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music and did her graduate work at DePaul University. She has appeared as a soloist and orchestral musician throughout the United States and Europe, performing in such legendary venues as Lincoln Center, Chicago’s Symphony Center, and Carnegie Hall. Paxinos’s extensive training and performing experience enables her to bring classical skills and styles to the duo’s contemporary selections, giving them fresh and interesting perspectives. Ben Westfall, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music – CCM – has a diverse musical background and is proficient in all types of guitar music– classical, jazz, Latin, and popular American styles. Westfall received his degree in classical guitar performance. However, he displays those classical techniques on an amplified steel string guitar instead of the traditional nylon string guitar – a rather unorthodox decision that is met with controversy from many within the classical guitar community. The duo’s broad range and innovative musical choices combine to create exciting and unconventional concert experiences.

The concert will take place Saturday December 11th, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. at the Elburn Community Center, 525 N. Main Street, Elburn, IL. The concert is free; however a free will donation will be taken up at the end of the concert, with all proceeds going to the Elburn and Countryside Community Center. The Center is a not-for-profit organization serving the Greater Elburn Community. An opportunity for an Elburn and Countryside Community presented itself when Elburn's elementary school was consolidated with the School District 302's other three elementary schools to form a single elementary school at the former middle school location. This left a building, playground, and additional acreage vacant. With its large gymnasium and balconied theater, cafeteria and classrooms, some residents felt that the building could ideally house a community center and office complex.

The Center receives no tax dollars from anyone, anywhere. Instead, the Center supports itself through a combination of private donations and leasing enterprises which utilize the former classroom space.
