St. Joseph School's Middle School Math teacher, Sharon Phelan puts extra time in each week sharing her after-school time with interested middle school students who have formed a club they’ve named, “Mathletes!” These students just enjoy math and come together to share this interest.

Five students from the club competed at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park on Monday, November 21, in both team and individual competitions. This eighth grade team placed First in the Small School Division. Team representatives included St. Joseph 8th graders, Colleen Dickey, Megan Geraghty, Phillip Kovarik, Junior Martinez and Noreen Nader.

In Individual Competitions, eighth grader, Phillip Kovarik placed first, receiving a Gold Medal in Individuals and Junior Martinez placed 3rd, receiving a Bronze Medal.

There were four rounds of competition which included a mixture of general math concepts, percentages, solving equations and using formulas.
