Top university officials and civic leaders from Downers Grove and DuPage County gathered at a groundbreaking ceremony on August, 1, 2011 for the Midwestern University Clinic, a $120 million facility that will house a multispecialty clinic and low-cost dental clinic for the community.

“The new clinic will welcome the entire community and offer quality healthcare at reduced, affordable fees,” said Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern University. “We are looking forward to providing excellent healthcare in an integrated, holistic approach that models our core value of service to the community,” Dr. Goeppinger added.

The clinic is part of Midwestern University’s $289.9 million capital construction plan that is significantly contributing to the regional economy. The construction activity is forecast to spur $478.5 million in economic activity that supports 2,900 hundred jobs and $184.3 million in personal income. The capital program is one of the largest private sector construction projects in DuPage County.

Once open in 2013, the facility will provide clinical education experiences for Midwestern students who will work under the supervision of full-time faculty members to provide affordable care to DuPage County residents.

“The addition of the new clinic will greatly benefit the region,” said Martin T. Tully, mayor of Downers Grove. “This will fill an essential need of affordable dental care for the people in Downers Grove and DuPage County.”

On August 30, Midwestern will formally dedicate the $88 million state-of-the- art Science Hall with members of the community.
