The following items were taken from Downers Grove police reports on Feb. 20.
Pot arrest at Downers Grove South High School
- A student at Downers Grove South High School was arrested for possession of marijuana after a school dean smelled the “strong odor of cannabis” from a room housing the school’s radio station, about 4 p.m. on Feb. 6. According to a police report, another student who was in the room but was not arrested told police the room smelled like marijuana and deodorizing spray. The student who was arrested was not charged, in favor of a less formal department-supervised punishment.
Disorderly conduct
- Two Downers Grove North High School students were charged with disorderly conduct after school officials discovered the two fought after school in the parking lot of Herrick Middle School, about 4 p.m. on Feb. 9.
Consumption of alcohol by a minor
- Five juveniles attending a student dance at Downers Grove North High School were arrested for consumption of alcohol by a minor, about 8 p.m. on Feb. 11. Two were arrested after they tried entering the dance and officials smelled alcohol on their breath. Three female students were arrested later after they were seen acting “suspiciously.” The juveniles were arrested and released. They were all charged at a later date.
Leaking roof, broken beer bottles
- The owner of a business in the 2800 block of Centre Circle Drive discovered 24 broken beer bottles on his roof while he was investigating the cause of a roof leak, about 7 a.m. on Feb. 12. The man told police he believed the broken beer bottles damaged his roof and were the cause of the leak. Damage to the roof was estimated at about $2,000
Burglaries reported along Lee Avenue
- Thieves attempted to steal a snow blower and an air compressor from an unlocked garage in the 4800 block of Lee Avenue, about 3 a.m. on Feb. 16. A resident found the two items, worth an estimated $200, outside his home after his wife heard a noise and noticed a motion detector light switched on.
- A snow blower worth an estimated $1,500 was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 4900 block of Lee Avenue between 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 and about 9 a.m. the following day.
- More than $2,000 worth of tools, including a $1,700 tile saw, were stolen from a construction site in the 4800 block of Lee Avenue, between Feb 14 and 17.
Diamond ring missing
- A diamond ring believed to be worth about $1,000 was stolen from a home in the 5500 block of Washington Street sometime on Feb. 16. The residents had guests over that day, they told police.
Drinking in public
- A 56-year-old homeless man was charged with drinking in alcohol in public after police watched him sip from a can of Miller Lite beer at the Fairview Avenue train depot, about 12:40 p.m. on Feb. 17.
