Two women attempted to lure an 8-year-old girl and her friend into their vehicle by offering the children candy, Downers Grove police said on Monday.

The children were playing about 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 in the backyard of a home in the 7200 block of Bateman Street when a black vehicle drove past and looped back around, police said.

After the vehicle slowed, the two women yelled from the street, offering the two girls candy while holding their hands out the vehicle’s window, police said. The two did not exit the vehicle or approach the yard where the  girls were playing, police said.

The children told the 8-year-old’s mother about the women about 20 minutes after the incident occurred, police said.

The women in the black vehicle were not located. Police will be conducting extra patrols in the area.
