The following items were taken from Downers Grove police reports on Feb 2.
Criminal damage
- A passenger-side mirror was broken off a car parked in the 4900 block of Linscott Avenue between 6 and 9 p.m. on Jan. 30. Police estimate damage to the car at $100.
- Spray-painted graffiti was found on two trees in Loy Park which occurred sometime between Jan. 28 and 29.
Theft
- An iPod touch was stolen from a car that was taken to a car wash in the 1400 block of Ogden Avenue about 9 a.m. on Jan. 21. The owners of the car said the iPod was in a center console when the car was taken in for cleaning. Later in the day he noticed it was missing.
Man arrested for unlawful discharge of an air gun
- A 38-year-old Downers Grove man of the 1900 block of Wisconsin Avenue was arrested and charged under village ordinance for using an air rifle about 5 p.m. on Jan. 31. Whether the man shot the air rifle or what he was doing was unclear in a heavily redacted police report. A neighbor called police because she saw the man walking around with the air rifle in his backyard.
Fights at South High School
- A fight between three female students broke out at Downers Grove South High School around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 30. Four school faculty members had to step in to break up the fight, according to a police report. Two of the females were arrested.
- At least two female students were involved in a fight that broke out in a Downers Grove South High School classroom about noon on Jan 31. One juvenile was arrested for fighting, which created “such a disruption that teachers were alarmed and disturbed,” according to a report.
Laundromat arrest
- A homeless man and woman were arrested at a Laundromat in the 5100 block of Fairview Avenue around 9:25 p.m. on Feb. 1. An employee told police the two were smoking and drinking inside and not using the machines.
Smoldering mattress
- Police were called to the 5600 block of Belmont Road after receiving a report of a suspicious item about 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 1. When police arrived they found a smoldering futon mattress in the parking lot of a video rental store. An officer discharged an entire fire extinguisher on the mattress, yet it continued to smolder. The Downers Grove Fire Department was called and extinguished the mattress. Police do not know how the futon ended up in the parking lot.
