Police: Drunk man arrested after eating food at grocery store

An intoxicated man was arrested at a Downers Grove grocery store for eating $90 worth of food that he did not pay for, police said.

Employees at a Dominick’s grocery in the 0 to 100 block of Ogden Avenue called police after employees watched the man wander around the store with a shopping cart, taking bites of food he found as he walked, according to a report.

The man told police he had no way of paying for the items, which were valued at $90, the report states.

After conferring with police, a store employee decided to pursue trespassing charges and opted  against a more serious retail theft charge, the report states.
