Man faces theft charge after presenting false receipt, and more

The following items were taken from Downers Grove Police Department reports on Nov. 23.

Theft

A passenger side window was smashed and a laptop computer was stolen out of a car parked in a restaurant parking lot in the 1500 block of Branding Lane between noon and 1:25 p.m. on Nov. 19.

Vandalism

An officer found graffiti apparently written with a black marker on a cable box at the Fairview train station at the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Burlington Avenue, at 9:05 p.m. on Nov. 19. Police contacted the phone company that owns the box requesting them to paint over the graffiti.

Retail theft

A 53-year-old Chicago man was charged with theft for stealing a faucet piece at a Home Depot store, 2000 Butterfield Road, after he told the cashier he paid for the item and presented a fraudulent receipt from another Home Depot store at 2:36 p.m.] on Nov. 20.

Possession of controlled substance

A 30-year-old Wheaton woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police pulled her over near Interstate 355 and found four syringes, a glass pipe with burnt ends, a white powder substance on three spoons and a plastic bag with a white substance in it at 5:38 p.m. on Nov. 20.

Suspicious incident

A man was found sleeping in an apartment laundry room area in the 400 block of Austin Street at 10 a.m. on Nov. 20. Police said a tenant chased the man into a nearby park but lost him. The apartment building had problems in the past with homeless people sleeping in the laundry room, police said.
