The following blotter items were taken from Downers Grove police reports on Aug. 30:
Thefts
· A plastic bin containing a collection of 98 DVDs went missing on Aug. 16 after hired movers transported items from a residence in the 0 to 100 block of Williams Street in Westmont, to storage facility located in 1300 block of Warren Ave. The victim stated that one of the movers commented on the large collection of DVDs before loading them into the moving truck.
· Cash valued at $200 was taken from a pair of pants hanging in an employee changing room at a business located in the 1800 block of Ogden Avenue at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 26. An employee told police that shortly before the money went missing the owner of the business allowed an unknown individual to use the employee bathroom, according to a report.
· A car window was smashed and a $200 handbag containing cash and credit cards was stolen from a vehicle parked at a park in the 600 block of 55th Street around 11 a.m. on Aug. 7.
Arrests
· A 50-year-old homeless man was arrested for public drunkenness after police received a report that someone may be vandalizing picnic facilities at a park in the 1500 block of Gilbert Avenue at 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 26. While no vandals were found, police asked an intoxicated man why he was in the park after hours, police said. According to the report, the man responded that he was in the park because he was homeless, and when he was later asked to leave he said “why don’t you … arrest me?” The man was taken into custody and later released. A bottle of vodka in his possession was photographed as evidence, according to police.
