Police investigating Downers Grove home invasion

Brian Slodysko, TribLocal reporter

Residents of a home in the 5500 block of Lyman Avenue awoke to find a male intruder in their basement early Monday morning, Downers Grove Police said Tuesday.

Nothing appears to have been taken and officials have not yet determined how the man, who police described as being in his teens, gained access to the house, police said.  There were no signs of forced entry, according to Sgt. Dave Bormann of the Downers Grove Police Department.

Residents called police after they became aware of the intruder, though they did not make contact with him, police said. The teen fled once officers arrived at the scene around 2:50 a.m., according to police.

One person was contacted and questioned. He was released, police said.

Bormann said the break-in does not appear to be part of a trend, calling it “a very rare incident.”  He declined to give further details on the break-in, citing an ongoing police investigation.
