This past Saturday, May 19, 2012, the Des Plaines Special Events Commission presented the Pooch Pet and Pedal Parade as part of the Des Plaines Park District’s 5th Annual Community Fair, held in the Juno Lighting and Mt. View Adventure Center/Prairie Lakes Park.  Kids of all ages brought their decorated bikes and pets to enjoy the day.  Other events highlighting the day included  Touch a Truck, sponsored by the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce, free kids’ bike helmets, sponsored by Des Plaines Healthy Community Foundation, the Lattof YMCA climbing wall, fun inflatables and a Kids’ 50-Yard Dash, sponsored by the Des Plaines Park District. Over two hundred bicyclists participated in the Des Plaines River Trail Bike Ride last year and even more are expected this year!  Everyone is invited to attend the 2nd Annual Des Plaines River Trail Bike Ride, which will get underway at 9 AM, Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Public Works Garage Facility, 1111 Joseph J. Schwab (Campground) Road, one block east of River Road, off Algonquin Road.  Registration for the free ride, which will be appropriate for all levels of bicyclists, will take place beginning at 8 AM at the Public Works facility.  Registration forms and a bike ride map are available at www.desplaines.org/rivertrailbikeride. (pictured above) Des Plaines Mayor Martin J.
