Still halfway short of their goal, members of the Central Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization have extended the deadline for their backpack drive, which donates bags filled with school supplies to needy children in District 62.

Donations will be accepted until Aug. 30 and the group has also lowered the cost from $22 to $18. The group is working with the humanitarian organization World Vision to give bags to 50 students — the PTO will cover any shortfalls to ensure the goal is reached.
