On November 30, the Skokie Valley Rotary Club hosted a presentation by Jenn Gibbons, Recovery on Water (ROW) founder, about her 2012 rowing expedition across the Atlantic Ocean. Gibbons’ expedition will raise funds and awareness for ROW, a not-for-profit rowing team that gives breast cancer survivors a unique opportunity to interact, become active in their recovery, and gain support from fellow survivors.
Gibbons, an avid rower since competing on the Michigan State University team, was inspired to found ROW after learning about research linking exercise and breast cancer survival rates. She will row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Senegal, West Africa to Guyana, South America. Gibbons will make the trip alone, without safety boats following her.
